We were delighted to be awarded the contract by UCLH Charity to undertake the conversion of an existing four storey building used for medical research to provide a new state-of the-art and purpose designed imaging centre for Queen Square Enterprises Limited.
The work comprised re-modelling and extending the existing accommodation together with structural alterations, full MEP upgrade and specialist MRI scanner installations. Work was undertaken at each floor level to provide a reception and MRI scanning, control room and changing facilities at ground floor level with consultation rooms, laboratory, meeting rooms, offices and toilets on upper floors. A new 8 person passenger lift was installed to facilitate patient and staff transfers between the ground and upper floor levels.
New ventilation, cooling and humidification systems were installed together with dedicated controls to the MRI suites to meet the onerous standards set by Seimens Healthcare for the operation of their sophisticated 1.5T ‘Aera’ and 3T ‘Prisma’ magnet equipment. The existing roof was strengthened to accommodate the additional plant load and acoustic screening was erected around the plant to both soften the visual impact of the equipment and to ensure compliance with the noise operating parameters set in the planning consent for the development.
The outcome was a complete success and the Imaging Centre is fully functional offering the very latest imaging techniques for clinical care and research.
We delivered a complex design and build residential project for Sapphire Independent Housing in West London, constructing 15 new homes across six constrained garage sites—11 to Passivhaus and 4 to Low Energy standard—using sequential phasing, prefabricated components, and Just-in-Time logistics under a JCT D&B contract with Sectional Completion.
We were proud to undertake a complex and historically significant three-phase project for University College Hospitals Charity at the Grade II-listed Middlesex Hospital Annex, involving careful demolition, structural preservation, extensive external fabric repairs, and the final conversion of the buildings into high-quality residential apartments.
The project involves refurbishing and fitting out the first floor of an occupied building in Canary Wharf to create medical facilities, with construction developed from RIBA Stage 4 to Stage 5 and strict adherence to healthcare design standards. Key challenges include designing access for heavy MRI equipment, coordinating complex MEP services in tight spaces, managing noise and storage restrictions, and maintaining rigorous quality controls under a strict Permit to Work regime.
